Witcher 3 armor (Witcher 3 armor sets) is mainly the witcher gear from the schools. In the inventory it lights up green and it stacks by tiers from basic all the way to grandmaster. Each school fits a different play style. Below each school you find the set tiers. The link is there when the guide is already live.
Numbers and locations in the guides match the next-gen version. After patches there can be small differences in the percentages. Each school below has a short style note and a list of set tiers.
How the tiers work
For Griffin, Cat, Bear, and Wolf the line runs basic, enhanced, superior, mastercrafted, and grandmaster. When you craft a higher tier, a piece from the previous one is consumed. A journeyman can handle basic through superior. For the Wolf superior chest you want Yoana. Mastercrafted armor is made by Yoana and the swords by Hattori. Grandmaster is only made by Lazare Lafargue in Beauclair and you need the Blood and Wine expansion. The full list of workshops is in the blacksmiths and armorers overview.
School overview
Griffin School
With Griffin it is about medium armor and about signs. You get the basic set in Velen from level 11. Grandmaster in Toussaint then adds bonuses around Yrden and chaining signs. More on the school is at the Griffin School.
Cat School
Cat is light armor for fast attacks and Aard. You get the basic set around level 17 and you hunt diagrams around Novigrad. Grandmaster rewards you when you alternate strong and fast attacks and when you attack from behind. More on the school is at the Cat School.
Bear School
Bear is heavy armor for long fights and Quen. You get the basic set on Skellige from level 20. Grandmaster holds Quen and raises how hard abilities that work with Quen hit. More on the school is at the Bear School.
Wolf School
Wolf is medium armor and mixes sword with signs. You get the basic set at Kaer Morhen from level 14. Grandmaster plays around bleeding and adrenaline. More on the school is at the Wolf School.
Manticore School
Manticore only has a grandmaster set from Blood and Wine. It is medium armor for alchemy and toxicity. The classic line from basic to mastercrafted is not there. More on the school is at the Manticore School.
Viper School
The Viper set is from Hearts of Stone and you get it from level 39. You buy the diagrams from Countess Mignole at the auction. Do not expect a five-tier line like Griffin or Wolf here. More on the school is at the Viper School.
Forgotten Wolf armor
Forgotten Wolf is a next-gen set. You get the basic set from the quest In the Eternal Fire’s Shadow at Devil’s Pit. Then you jump straight to mastercrafted and grandmaster. The enhanced and superior middle tiers are not there. Diagrams for the higher tiers come from notes in Kaer Morhen.
