Witcher 3 School of the Wolf (School of the Wolf) is the school Geralt of Rivia came from. It sits in Kaer Morhen in Kaedwen and among people it has a reputation as reliable monster killers who take contracts and stick to the Path. In the books and the games it is the school you know first. Details of the keep, the training, and the Order falling apart were mainly filled in by the games, Gwent, and A Witcher’s Journal.
Overview
The School of the Wolf started as the last remnant of the Order of Witchers. Mage Alzur and others in the 10th century made the first witchers and settled them at Castle Morgraig. When the mages left and the Order broke into smaller schools, the remaining witchers went east to the Morhen valley. That ended the Order and started what they themselves call the golden age of the schools.
Training stood on the Trial of the Grasses and other trials. They spent winter at the keep, and in spring they went on the Path. Wolves and Griffins sometimes backed each other on the road. Cats and Vipers were not allowed at Kaer Morhen. After the pogrom, the mages who knew how to make mutagens were gone, and knowledge of that trial slowly faded. The last children trained at the school in the 1230s.
Pogrom and winter
In the 12th century a mob led by mages and priests attacked Kaer Morhen. They slaughtered the witchers inside. The pogrom was condemned, but the school never regained full strength. From the generation before the attack mainly Vesemir remained, but he could no longer make new witchers and so he only trained the last handful of children who were still there.
In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Geralt, Eskel, Lambert, and Vesemir still spend winters in the fortress. The keep holds the memory of the school, even though training children ended long ago. Salamandra and the Wild Hunt caught up with the school one last time. Vesemir falls in the Battle of Kaer Morhen and Eskel takes over watching the ruins. Summary
