Basic Ursine gear (Ursine School Gear) is a heavy set. You wear it from level 20. It fits a tank build and strong attacks, and the bonuses push mainly adrenaline.
Combat style
The Ursine set is heavy armor. The pieces raise adrenaline and high resistances, mainly slashing and against monsters. You fight up close, soak more hits, and swing strong attacks. Quen fits best and you can combine it well with Igni or Aard. It is not pure Griffin for signs.

The four pieces add up to 289. The numbers in the table apply at NG+ start + 21. After that, armor keeps scaling. The chest gains +5 for each further Geralt level, and gloves, trousers, and boots gain +2. The full set picks up +11 armor per level.
When you start NG+ at 50 and you are at level 74, you are three levels above the table. The chest is at 155, gloves at 53, trousers and boots at 57, and the total is 322.
Where to find the diagrams
You buy the map for the basic Ursine set from the armorer in Kaer Trolde. After you read it, objectives pop up on Skellige. The map is not required and you can pick up the diagrams without it.
You find all four armor pieces together on An Skellig in ruins by Yngvar’s Fang and Tuirseach castle. Go through the cellar, the switch, and the rubble upstairs to the chest.
The steel sword is in a ruined inn on the south of Ard Skellig. The silver sword lies in Fort Etnir between gargoyles and an ice elemental. Pick up the crossbow at the old watchtower.
Who crafts it
An apprentice armorer or blacksmith forges it for you, and you have the list in the blacksmiths and armorers overview.
