Witcher 3 world map regions (Witcher 3 world map) in the base game: White Orchard, Velen, Novigrad with Oxenfurt, Skellige, Kaer Morhen, and a short stop in Vizima. The expansions add Gustfields (Hearts of Stone) and Toussaint (Blood and Wine).
How the map is laid out
Velen and Novigrad share one continental map, and you ride between them on horseback. You sail to Skellige from the Novigrad harbor. You return to Kaer Morhen on a quest once you have cleared the main leads in Velen, in Novigrad, and on the islands.
After White Orchard the story pauses for a while in Vizima with Emperor Emhyr. Then you continue into Velen to search for Ciri.
White Orchard
The first open region after the dream in Kaer Morhen is small. You learn the notice board, combat, and signs. The contract The Beast of White Orchard runs here, along with several places of power. You meet monsters on the roads and at nests.

Velen
Velen is No Man’s Land between White Orchard and Novigrad. It rains a lot and the roads are mud. Crow’s Perch sits in the middle. Swamps lie to the east. The main line brings you here searching for Ciri. Then you go to the Bloody Baron. Later you meet the Ladies of the Wood.

Novigrad and Oxenfurt
Novigrad is the first big city on the map. Beyond the walls you find the harbor and the Church of Eternal Fire. You meet Triss and the politics around the Eternal Fire. Oxenfurt sits a short ride east on the same map canvas. You reach it overland from Velen.

Skellige
Skellige is an archipelago in the north. You arrive by ship on the quest Destination: Skellige. Snow and rock define the land. Kaer Trolde is the main hub. The jarls’ coronation happens here and you meet Ciri again. You travel between islands by boat and the monsters are tougher than on the continent.

Kaer Morhen
The witcher school fortress in the Blue Mountains. At the start you see it in the dream during the tutorial. Free return comes with the quest Ugly Baby, when you search for a way to Ciri with Uma. In the valley you handle the ritual, gather allies, and defend the keep in battle. The area is small and stays around the fortress and the mountain paths.

Toussaint
Toussaint from the Blood and Wine expansion is its own open region in the south. On the map you spot it by the vineyards, Beauclair, and castles on the hills. You reach it from Velen and Novigrad once a contract from the imperial palace sends you there.
In the duchy you follow the vampire line, tournaments, and vineyards around Beauclair. The land is sunnier than Velen and the monsters match a different difficulty than the continent at the start of the game. Open the expansion once you have gear for Toussaint, or the region will tear through you.
