Witcher 3 Wandering in the Dark (Wandering in the Dark) is a main quest in Velen. You go with Keira Metz into elven ruins looking for clues about Ciri. Along the way you meet the Wild Hunt, pass through the White Frost under her shield, and at the end you get the Eye of Nehaleni. The Magic Lamp is a side quest Keira offers afterward.

The quest starts after Hunting a Witch (Hunting a Witch), once you meet Keira in her hut. You can go to the ruins right away or come back later. The entrance sits in the southwest of Velen, west of Byways.

Elven ruins with Keira

Keira leads you down the stairs. In the first hall she opens a portal. You can follow her or stay behind. Either way drowners wait for you and you swim into the next cave. Then you push on through the ruins. Sometimes you break a wall with Aard, other times you clear poisonous fog with Igni. Along the way you see magical projections of an elven mage and you run into wraiths.

The goal is not the lamp itself. You are after what the elven mage knew about Ciri and why the Wild Hunt cared about her.

Wild Hunt and White Frost

In the ruins you run into riders of the Wild Hunt. They are looking for Ciri too. Keira opens more portals, but the Hunt calls the White Frost. Outside her shield the frost takes you down fast. Stay close to Keira under the magic dome and clear the Wild Hunt hounds that crawl out of the cracks. Keira closes four portals one by one. After this stretch she is exhausted.

Nithral and the Eye of Nehaleni

Keira opens a buried passage. Further down, Wild Hunt warrior Nithral waits for you. When he hides under his own dome, take down the hounds first and only then go back to him. Keira shoots magic at him. It is a bit annoying, but three times he hides under the dome and refills his health.

After the fight you get the Eye of Nehaleni. It breaks magical illusions in the game. At the end of the quest Keira can ask you to help with the lamp the elven mage promised her. When you agree, the side quest Magic Lamp starts. When you refuse, you will not get the lamp later.

Monsters in the ruins

In Wandering in the Dark you meet several types at once. Right after the portal and in the water there are drowners. By a flooded side path you can also run into a water hag. In side corridors and by chests foglets lurk. In the hall with poisonous fog wraiths come at you.

By the mage’s magical projections a golem waits for you. The branch into a side room has an optional spitter. Under Keira’s shield during the White Frost Wild Hunt hounds crawl out of the cracks. At the end of the ruins you fight Nithral, a warrior of the Hunt, not a regular bestiary monster.

Closing

Wandering in the Dark is the investigation with Keira in the elven dig site and the first bigger clash with the Wild Hunt in Velen. Keep the Eye of Nehaleni in your inventory. The lamp comes in the next quest. More on the Witcher 3 hub and in the Witcher 3 review.
