The Witcher 3 — Fencing Lessons

Witcher 3 Fencing Lessons (Fencing Lessons) is a side quest in Novigrad, where Geralt gives a second round of fencing to Rosa var Attre. You unlock it only when in Broken Flowers you win both practice rounds with wooden swords and at the end agree to more lessons. Finish it before the Isle of Mists, or the quest fails.

Walkthrough

How the quest starts

At the var Attre villa the guard takes you to Rosa as her new fencing instructor. First you practice with wooden swords. You have to beat her twice. If she takes at least one round from you, she will not ask for another lesson.

After the second round she asks if you will practice with her again. Say you would like to, and ask when and where. Fencing Lessons shows up in the journal. Then you have at least one in-game day free.

Back to the villa

Once a day has passed, go back to the entrance. Talk to the guard captain, not to Rosa inside. Say you have a meeting about fencing. The captain tells you Rosa went to the bridge and that she is waiting for you there.

Rosa stands on the road to the Seven Cats Inn with a guard. She sends him away at once and wants you to go with her. Follow her onto the bridge.

Fight on the bridge

In the middle of the bridge she draws steel and wants a duel. Bring her health roughly down to half, then she gives up. She asks you to look away, that she has to fix her corset. When you turn back, she is gone.

Turn on witcher senses and follow the tracks to the Seven Cats Inn.

At the Seven Cats Inn

At the inn two drunks hold her, and they cannot stand that she is a Nilfgaardian. You can drive them off with Axii, pay 50 crowns, or beat them. Then you talk to Rosa briefly and the quest ends. A third lesson never comes.

From the dialogue it looks like there is something between Geralt and Rosa. The game does not open a romance with her, it stays at fencing. An overview of the real romances is in the guide to all romances.

Closing

Fencing Lessons is a short side quest. You need two wins in Broken Flowers, a day free, and the captain at the door. On the bridge it is enough to bring Rosa down to half health, at the inn deal with the drunks.
