Witcher 3 Berengar’s blade is the side quest Berengar’s Blade in Kaer Morhen. You find Berengar’s notes in the outer courtyard, talk to Vesemir, and in the cave by the river you defeat a chort. In the sack you then find the diagram for the silver sword Tor’haerne, which Berengar never managed to forge properly. You have to finish the quest before the council for the Battle of Kaer Morhen, or it vanishes from the journal.
Where the quest starts
Once you are back at the keep after the game intro and you have gone through the inner parts, head to the outer courtyard. By the western wall, west of the grindstone, there is a room like a cell. Berengar’s notes lie in the chest.
Turn on witcher senses and the chest glows red as a quest item. After you search it, read the letter.
In the letter Berengar rants about the sword Tor’haerne. A week of work at the forge, the sword broke on the first practice strike, and Vesemir buried him in advice. Geralt recognizes that the diagram belongs to an old colleague who disappeared a few years ago.

Vesemir and the chort cave
Head to the main hall and pick Vesemir’s line about Berengar’s notes. When he stands at the gate with Uma, he will not talk to you yet. After the talk with Yennefer in the quest Disturbance, you find him inside.
Vesemir tells you that Berengar went along the river to kill a chort and left the diagram in the cave when he fled. On the map the entrance is marked east of the keep. The easiest path runs along the river from the signpost by the keep.
A chort waits for you in the cave. The fight is tight, the chort has three eyes and can stun you. After it dies, search the rest of the cave with witcher senses.
In the sack you find Diagram: Tor’haerne and the quest ends. In a chest in the same cave there is also a diagram for Superior Wolven boots, and that one has nothing to do with the quest.

The Tor’haerne sword
Tor’haerne is a relic silver sword. It matches the recommended level for the area around Kaer Morhen and for a while it is the strongest silver weapon you can have. You craft it at a master blacksmith, you have no blacksmith at the keep, so you save the sword for Novigrad or another city with a master. Details on crafting at blacksmiths near the keep are in the guide to Kaer Morhen blacksmiths.
Closing
Berengar’s Blade is a short quest for one afternoon at the Wolf School keep. Finish it before the council for the Battle of Kaer Morhen. You find more quests and guides for the game on the Witcher 3 hub, and the review summarizes the main line.
