The Witcher 3 Remastered (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered) has been out since September 29, 2026 as a free upgrade for owners of the game on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. CD Projekt RED announced it on August 25, 2026 at gamescom Opening Night Live together with a native version on Nintendo Switch 2 and Battle.net.

This article is kept as an archive of that announcement. The release date, the free upgrade package, and the list of change areas from the press release are below. All current information about the Remaster is summarized in the Remaster overview in the card below this paragraph.

What the announcement included

Remastered brings a free graphics, combat, and movement upgrade and native Switch 2 for the first time. The studio lists these areas of change:

  • Visuals and performance. Modernized image and optimization across platforms.
  • Combat and movement. Improved combat, movement through the world, new sign effects, adjusted monster behavior, and new finishers.
  • Horse controls. Reworked handling for Roach.
  • Skill tree. Reworked ability branches.
  • Transmogrification and photo mode. Armor appearance swaps and an expanded photo mode.
  • New platforms. Native Nintendo Switch 2 (pre-orders are open) and Battle.net in cooperation with Blizzard.

Owners of the current game on supported platforms get Remastered as a free upgrade. New players buy Remastered directly. The Hungarian studio Yigsoft is involved in development and already worked with CD Projekt RED on the Complete Edition.

From August 25, 2026, all current owners of The Witcher 3 have free access to the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions, which were often missing from the base edition before.

On the same evening, a teaser dropped for the third expansion Songs of the Past with the new Letten region. The expansion targets 2027 and is paid content. The wishlist is already live on selected platforms.

What it means in the game

Anyone who already owns The Witcher 3 can download Remastered as a free upgrade. The Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions have been free since August 25, 2026. Anyone buying the game now can go straight for Remastered or the Switch 2 and Battle.net versions.

The visual and combat changes build on the next-gen update from 2022, but Remastered goes further with signs, the skill tree, and transmogrification. Current PC requirements and FPS apply to the existing next-gen build. The studio has not published official tables specifically for Remastered yet.

Anyone who wants to know whether the game is worth it even without the remaster can read The Witcher 3 review. After Remastered launches, you can compare it with what players know from the Complete Edition.
